Marcelo Alvarez (27 February, 1962) is an Argentine tenor born in Cordoba with an international popularity with a repertory in Italian and French opera. He belongs to the American tenors who have excelled in opera since the 1990’s, among them are Rolando Villazon, Juan Diego Florez, Ramon Vargas, Aquiles Machado, Raúl Giménez, Luis Lima, Carlo Ventre and José Cura.
Although his professional approach to opera singing has occurred in a relatively advanced age from his appearance on the operatic stage, the best arenas have fought about him. He has played Manrico, Werther, Alfredo, the Duke of Mantua and Riccardo. The great productions of "The Force of Destiny", "La Fanciulla del West" and "Pagliacci" are still waiting for him.
Marcelo Alvarez has been able to develop his career with much attention, both for the roles he has assumed and for the progressive changes in style that saw him protagonist. His priorities are always to uphold the principles of ' bel canto", quality and respect for his own voice.
The challenge and the incentives offered by the new roles, excite him continuously as evidenced in the courage shown to have changed three times his repertoire, as well as having played a large number of roles, from the beginning of his career in 1994 nonstop, confirming his reputation as an artist of international top.
Marcelo Alvarez now lives with his wife and son in Tortona, Italy.
