Ailyn Pérez was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1979 and is one of the leading American sopranos.
She began her singing studies at the College of Elk Grove Village. Later she entered the University of Inidana.
She was part of the Summer EPCASO and later she was admitted in the Academy of Vocal Arts, where she graduated in 2006. She was member of the Merola program, which led her to join the cast of Wolf Trap Opera in 2005, she participated in productions of Le nozze di Figaro, as the Countess Almaviva, Roméo et Juliette and, in the starring role.
Winner of major singing competitions also won the trophy in 2006 in Operalia. She married the famous American tenor Stephen Costello, not only as a pair in real life, but also on the scene with great success.
Today has been chosen winner of the Richard Tucker. This prestigious prize, awarded by the Richard Tucker Music Foundation is awarded annually.
Ailyn Pérez is the first Hispanic soprano to receive this prestigious award given for 34 years to opera singers in recognition of their artistic career.
