Stage name of Puerto Rican reggaeton singers Juan Luis Morera Luna (Wisin) and Llandel Veguilla Malave (Yandel), born respectively in 1978 and 1977 in the town of Cayey, in southern Puerto Rico.
Also known as W & Y, the duo of History and The Dynamic Duo, they are ranked among the best examples of reggaeton, a musical subgenre of reggae and dance descendant of hip hop became popular in the late early 1990, and whose lyrics sometimes motivated by their strong controversial racist, violent or overtly sexual.
In his hometown, working as a hairdresser Wisin, Yandel was completed while studying theater and performance. In musical matters share the same tastes, and soon debuted on the scene recording some issues in compilation albums.
In 1998 participated in the album No Fear 3, produced by DJ Dicky, a year later, in the Mission Collection, Vol 1, published by the Fresh Production label. The success of this collection (which reached gold record) led the label to produce Los Reyes del Nuevo Milenio, first album of Wisin y Yandel.
From that moment the duo reaped success after success. Continued to publish new topics in the successive editions of The Mission and recorded three new albums: From New to Old (2001), My Life ... My Life (2003) and otherwise (2004). The three were gold. His fledgling career was also awarded the Tu Musica Award for best rap and reggaeton duo, which were granted in 2002.
While they were in a sweet moment, there was speculation about a possible separation of the pair when, in 2004, appeared Wisin Survivor and Who against me? Yandel, early solo albums. The sales figures were also highlights, but also the dreaded divorce was never recorded in his biography. In 2005, Wisin y Yandel, as or more united than before, presented Pa'l World. It included songs that immediately became famous as Rakata and Night Sex. In short, one that deserved success that the album was nominated for the Billboard Awards.
The duo announced that same year to create his own label, WY Records, to publish the following year that the Cowboys and Los Vaqueros Wild Wild Mixes (remix from above), for recording told collaborations with leading figures of the reggaeton. Songs like the phone and I love you became immensely popular.
Its relevance in the genre is such that the sum of the components of the duo and the undisputed Don Omar is known as the Bermuda Triangle of reggaeton.
